Ford Will Develop a New Police
Ford Will Develop a New Police Car, Ford has announced it will develop a new police vehicle to replace the classic in 2011 Crown Victoria, now equipped model numerous security forces throughout North America. The firm plans to stop producing this model in late 2011 and the new model will begin to be manufactured so that there is no interruption in production.
The manufacturer sells a year, some 45,000 police cars, which Ford has become the main supplier of cars for the police forces in America. But the position of the Crown Victoria is facing increasing competition from General Motors (GM) and Chrysler. In the first eight months of the year, sales of the model have fallen 33 percent over the same period in 2008.
For the past 14 months, Ford has been determining the main attributes of the new vehicle, which has not yet provided the name, such as safety, resistance, comfort and performance.
The Crown Victoria police interceptor entered service in the early eighties and since then has made 75 percent of the police car market. In recent years, the image of the Crown Victoria has been hit by a series of accidents in which some vehicles have experienced explosions of their fuel tanks after suffering rear impacts.
The new Ford police interceptor will probably be based on the same platform that produces the Ford Taurus.
